The Papparazzi

Koreans love Western (and any non-Korean) babies. Any time we, or any of our friends, go outside, our kids are the subject of a lot of attention. For example, when Vivian and I flew to Vietnam, we had to walk from the front of the plane to the rear of the plane to use the restroom. Every single person on that plane was watching us, trying to touch Vivian, taking our picture, and even videotaping us! It was a strange feeling, like being in a pageant or something.

At the beach we're particularly vulnerable to attention. On a recent day at the beach with our friends, the Papparazzi was gathered around as usual...the little blonde baby (partly hidden by photographers) is our South African friend Hannah, and the little curly haired toddler in pink is Eden, our Indonesian/American friend. Her mom, Alice, is in the foreground in pink. Everyone else in the pic is trying to capture her own Kodak moment.
