Buddha's Birthday Outing

Since being in Korea, its been difficult for us to get outside for any recreational activities, what with taking care of Vivian and lacking a personal car. We definitely have to think ahead now; our opportunities for spontaneous outings are few. On a recent holiday (Buddha's Birthday), we left Vivian with Mrs. Oh, and had Mr. Lee drive us to Beomeosa, a temple complex in Pusan that is surrounded by rugged hills and plentiful hiking trails, where we took in the sights of the temple and went for a hike in the woods.

A view of the spring woods. Its quite beautiful right now, with the creeks full and the trees and bushes greening up with the warming air.

We had a little navigational difficulty on the trail. Hiking is a very popular activity here, and the hills are crisscrossed with many, many trails. Since the signs and markers are all in Korean, its a little hard for us to know whether we were on the right route or not. I kept pretending that these trail markers, which look like winner's ribbons hanging from tree brancges, were telling me "Yay, Kiley, you're a winner!"

Once we regained our bearings, we made it back to the temple, where we were taken by the large array of statuary: Buddhas and Boddhisattvas of all sizes and styles.
