Saturday at the beach

Most days, Vivian and I walk from our house, along the beach boardwalk, around Dongbaek Island, and back home. Vivian loves being in her buggy and it gets us out enjoying the outside. The trip usually takes about an hour. The weather has been wonderful since early May, although some people tell me that this has been a really rainy spring. What counts as a rainy spring here would be considered a drought in Portland. On weekends, Bruce joins us for our walk.

This Saturday happened to be the Haeundae Beach Sand Festival, so we enjoyed our walk with several thousand of our closest Korean friends. The sand festival hosted the usual beach events: volleyball tournamant, sand castle building contest, sand sculpture contest, and the classic golf ball distance contest where competitors hit golf balls out into the ocean. The most interesting event, though, was a wrestling competition in which opponents attempt to pick each other up by sashes tied around the waist and under the leg and throw each other on the ground:

We stopped along the way to play in the grass. Vivi hasn't seen too much grass as there's not much grass to play in here. She was very interested in the pine needles littering the grass.

All is well until mama tells her she can't put the pine needles in her mouth, and takes them away. Poor, poor Vivian. She wanted those pine needles SO BADLY! She only recently started protesting when something she wants is taken away from her.
