Nike Fun Run

Every month, Nike hosts a fun run for its Pusan Nike office and local factory employees. At the March run, Bruce ran the 5K course, and Vivian and I walked the course. When Vivi is a little bigger and can ride in the jogging stroller, we can all run!

This month's run was held on the beach boardwalk near our apartment. The run started early, at 9 am, and some people were not very happy about being out so early.

The event kicked off with a very charming group warm up led by an aerobics instructor. Perhaps I'm a cynic, but I don't think a group warm up would be as appreciated in America as it is here in Korea, where pursuing recreational activities with a group is strongly preferred to doing the same activity independently.

Some employees choose to help host the event rather than participate. Shown on the left below is our very tall, handsome, and faithful driver Mr. Lee. Mr. Lee deserves his own entry, so more on him later.

385 people participated in the run. The culture here is very health conscious and we often see runners and fitness walkers out on the beachfront working out, so the large turn out is not a surprise.

It was a very competitive event. Bruce's boss Michael is shown below trying to move into first place in stroller class.

Bruce sneaked up on this guy and beat him at the last second, then doubled back to meet Kiley, Vivian, and their friends as they finished the course.

Vivian doesn't know it yet, but she has two friends here. Aidan (l) and Eden (r) are both 15-16 months old and we see them often.

Here's the group of people we see the most of. From left to right, we have the Caseys, Alice and Michael (Michael is Bruce's boss) and their daughter, Alice's sister visiting from Indonesia, Jill and Greg and their son, Jeannie, who works for Nike and helps the expats to get everything they need or want, Kay, another Nike employee, Nid, who is from Thailand, and her partner Dennis. I don't know the last person on the right.
