Mangosteen and Dragonfruit!

I didn't even know these fruits existed until I visited Asia for the first time. Now they are some of my favorites. And I am so excited because I can get them in China. Mangosteens are really hard on the outside but are soft and juicy and so sweet they almost make your teeth hurt. The flavor is impossible to describe. Dragonfruits are soft all over and peel open to reveal white flesh filled with poppyseed-like seeds. Some dragonfruits are magenta throughout, like the color of the peel.
I had become used to the produce selection in Korea. Which is a nice way of saying that for three years I suffered low selection, high price, and poor quality. Now I can't really attest to the quality of Chinese produce yet, but the selection is phenomenal and the price is low low low, about 10% of the price we paid in Korea. And we couldn't even get fruits like mangosteen or dragonfruit, much less mango, papaya, or even avocado for an affordable price.

I love all your stories of life in China -
